Details

This tastefully decorated holiday cottage, formerly a tiny inn, is one of the oldest buildings in the picturesque village of Manorbier in Pembrokeshire. Close by are the medieval castle (with tea room) and the village pub with beer garden (dogs welcome), real ale, and a real fire in winter.

The sandy beach at Manorbier, overlooked by the castle, offers safe swimming, sandcastle building, pebble art, stream damming, rockpooling and surfing. On the southern headland is a neolithic tomb. Beyond it, circular walks can be made along the spectacular coast path and back over fields.

Beloved in more recent times of writers and artists, Manorbier is the place where Virginia Woolf began her first novel. Gerald of Wales, around 1200, called it 'the pleasantest spot in Wales'. Eight centuries later it still is.

If you want to look further, Tenby, six miles away, has coffee shops and restaurants, shops, a museum and a charming harbour, from which you can cross to Caldey Island for monks and sea birds.

This quiet cottage, tucked away up a narrow path, will suit young families, couples getting away, or friends with backpacks and field glasses.
